Angel

In traditional culture, there are three angelic ranks. Angels of the lower hierarchy take care of people – they warn and protect, and they are also God’s intermediaries, proclaiming His intentions. *to proclaim is not a slang word, the word means to tell, to inform someone of something. Bagel. Carolers should generously give gifts, otherwise the hosts could turn away luck. So they prudently prepared treats, including several bundles of bagels – salty, with jam or poppy seeds.

Hut   

Ukrainians carefully chose a place for their future home: they believed that it would protect the hosts from misfortune. Areas where a ghoul had been seen or where lightning had struck were unsuitable. Happy – where cattle lie down or ants live.

Christmas tree       

People believed that the Christmas tree was an expression of eternity and that spirits lived in it. To gain their favor, the tree was made ritualistic and the tradition of decorating spruce branches was started. Goat In Ukrainian folklore, the goat symbolized fertility and fertility. To ensure that the coming year would pass in abundance, they would “drive a goat” on a generous evening, accompanying the ceremony with songs and dances.

The Moon

Rooster  

This bird is on guard of harmony and consistent time. Depending on the color, its attributive meaning changes, in particular, the golden rooster is associated with the sun, and therefore awakening.

There is a legend that stars embody angels. These spiritual messengers have occupied the heavenly staircase and hold lighted candles – from there they watch over the souls of people.

Firebird   

Another name for this colorful bird is “kreshana”: the one who kreshanas living fire. She borrows a bright flame from the sun – yes, with each of her movements, lightning appears in the sky.

The Grasshopper   

The horse was a chthonic creature – a mediator between the world of the living and the dead. In fairy tales, endowed with magical power, the horse always came to the aid of its master.
