Fabric: eco-fur, half-wool.
Keptar is a traditional sleeveless outerwear, modern cut based on ancient motifs, common in the Western part of Ukraine.
Made of high-quality eco-fur and half-wool cloth with a knitted base, which does not roll down and will have a long service life. The length of the keptar reaches below the knees, which was typical for the Bukovina region. There is a belt at the waist, and a low collar around the neck.
Mostly, festive keptars were sewn for weddings, and only then were they worn to church. It is especially elegant to wear a keptar for the morning service before Easter. When it is still cool outside, such clothing warms well. Each region of Ukraine is distinguished by the richness of the ornamentation of the keptary, for its picturesqueness it is also called “painted”. Previously, such sleeveless jackets were a special luxury and were worth as much as a cow or land for a peasant.
The MALANKA keptary collection is inspired by traditional Ukrainian outerwear. The beaded pattern was developed in the walls of our workshop. The designer was inspired by embroidered Hutsul keptary, which are generously decorated to this day. “The decoration of these coats is taken mostly from the realm of plants, more or less stylized patterns, flowers, leaves arranged in braids” – wrote the Austrian engineer Erich Kolbenhayer, who studied the embroidery ornaments in Bukovina.
