Krivulka, silyanka – a neck ornament in the form of a ribbon made of beads strung on a thread. Ukrainians believed that this particular ornament was a talisman and brought happiness, so they wore it every day.
The floral ornament and oblique crosses, which are characteristic of beaded ornaments, symbolize the sun-amulet and at the same time the Christian faith. The silyanka fits incredibly beautifully into images in combination with multi-layered ornaments.
The ornament is inspired by the pattern of a traditional children’s sleeveless jacket from Pokuttya, which is kept in the collection of the Oles Honchar Museum in Kyiv.
