A toy from the new series “From Roman to Jordan” – “Andrew’s Day” (Kalita).
The stars of this collection illustrate winter Ukrainian holidays, sewn from natural fabrics, filled with padding polyester, and hand-painted by Ternopil craftsmen.
Andrew’s Day is December 13, another name for the holiday is Kalita. Kalita is a large white flour cake that all the girls bake together at St. Andrew’s Eve parties. Kalita is hung in the middle of the house to the rafters and a guard stands next to her, while the other young men have to bite off their piece of the cake.
Andriy is considered a bachelor’s holiday, since on St. Andrew’s Night, young men are allowed to romp and cause various mischief, while girls tell fortunes that night – trying to find out their fate.
